Morning rush can feel manic. This is the tea for when you need energy, at the start of the day and again in the afternoon when focus begins to slip. Selected for those who want to feel calm and energized, without the jitter coffee gives you. Gyokuro is your alternative.

Did you know Gyokuro and matcha share the same cultivation method: both are shade-grown to increase amino acids and depth of flavor. Where matcha is ground into powder, Gyokuro remains a loose leaf, rolled like little pine needles, brewed slowly, releasing energy evenly. The result is steady alertness.

FLAVOUR PROFILE GYOKURU

A pronounced umami character delivers a rich, brothy profile with subtle marine and mineral nuances. Natural amino acid sweetness and fresh vegetal notes bring balance. The texture is smooth and silky, with a buttery impression that enhances its luxurious character. Full-bodied yet weightless, it coats the palate without astringency. The finish is clean, with a lingering sweetness compared to the sweetness you find in edamame beans.

FOOD PAIRING

Pair the Gyokuru with foods that respect its umami intensity and won't fight that savory, oceanic depth. This tea goes exceptionally well with sushi and sashimi (especially fatty fish).

SEVING TIPS FOR ZERO HOUR

Discover the full potential of Japans most refined tea. Here are our serve tips.

SERVING TIPS
1
BREW LOW AND SLOW

Gyokuro demands water between 50-60°C, much cooler than other green teas. This low temperature extracts pure umami sweetness while leaving bitterness behind.

2
STEEP MULTIPLE TIMES

Gyokuro leaves can be steeped 5-10 times, with each infusion revealing new layers Your first steep should be 60-90 seconds.

3
Try ice-brewing (kooridashi)

Place Gyokuro leaves in your teapot and cover directly with ice cubes (1g tea per 30ml water/ice), then let the ice melt slowly over 3-4 hours. Serve in a wine glass or snifter to fully appreciate its elegance. This transforms your Gyokuro into a completely different experience. Perfect on a hot day.
